Obtaining a person’s criminal record, also known as a Police Record, in Ecuador is a straightforward process that can only be done digitally. The Criminal Record Certificate is always available online and is issued by the Ministry of the Interior.

Avoiding Scams

It is important to note that no government agency issues this document physically, and the process is entirely free. Beware of scams involving anonymous offers to obtain the certificate for a fee. These are fraudulent, as the official process is both free and simple to complete.

  3. Provide Necessary Information: Have the ID number of the citizen whose criminal background you wish to check.
  4. State the Reason: The system will prompt you to enter the reason for your query. This text must be at least 10 characters long.

Using the Certificate

The Criminal Record Certificate is an electronically signed document, making it valid for any official procedure that requires it. The certificate is valid for 90 days from the date of issue. The validity date is printed at the bottom left of the document.
