Jan Topic, a businessman from Guayaquil, has been chosen as the presidential candidate for the SUMA movement, stepping in after Pedro Freile. He will partner with María Cristina Calderón Saá-Jaramillo as his vice-presidential running mate.

The government of Daniel Noboa has announced plans to hire one or two more barges to address the ongoing electricity crisis. These will be added to the existing barge leased from the Turkish company Karpowership.

Ecuador has been forced to significantly increase its electricity imports from Colombia due to an early onset of drought. In 2023, the country paid a steep 21.6 cents per kilowatt-hour to Colombia—nearly four times the cost of its domestic energy.
