Quito Airport Warns of Fake Lost Luggage Announcement

A fraudulent post is spreading on social media.

The Mariscal Sucre International Airport in Quito issued an alert on its X account, cautioning the public about a false advertisement circulating online.

The ad promotes a supposed charity event where unclaimed luggage would be sold for $2 per suitcase. It claims that a large number of forgotten suitcases accumulate each year in the airport’s warehouse, which will now be donated through an event supposedly organized by the airport.

The post also urges those interested to complete a questionnaire to receive a suitcase, emphasizing limited availability and urgency.

The airport clarified that this announcement is unrelated to the institution or its operations, calling it a fraudulent attempt to mislead people.

The organization urged the public not to share personal information or engage with the fake advertisement. They reiterated that Mariscal Sucre International Airport is not organizing any such event.
